Seamus Allen

Systems & technical designer

Hi, I'm Seamus! I'm a recent graduate from Stanford University with a strong portfolio of completed games projects. I've published to Kickstarter and Steam, taught game design for Stanford and GDS, and worked in Unity, Godot, Unreal, and Svelte. I forge deep, evocative experiences from simple, low-scope systems.

Experience

Adjunct Instructor | Game Design Skills
  • Wrote lectures and built presentation slides to an extremely high degree of fidelity, developing concrete case studies and applying made-to-stick techniques.
  • Designed exercises, provided feedback to students, and graded course assignments.
Game Designer and Developer | Eldritch Wonders
  • Rapidly built and tested Inspyra, a card game and RPG. Built an initial prototype in a single weekend, then developed card designs, wrote dialog, and built high-quality tooling for rapid card implementation.
  • Wrote and used design skeletons, goals documents, and milestone planning to maximize the resource efficiency of a small team.
Graduate Teaching Assistant | Stanford University
  • Mentored, graded, and instructed students in economic policy analysis, critical analysis of games, and political philosophy.
  • This spring, I took a group of 17 students from novice to graduate level in media critique over the course of ten weeks. I facilitated discussions to draw out evidenced claims and selected game-reading pairings for the course, adapting on the fly as the teaching team discovered that students were coming in with less experience than we expected.
Lead Game Designer | Village on Stilts
  • Designed, built, and playtested two tabletop roleplaying games.
  • Performed financial modeling for licensing and production agreements.
  • Wrote marketing copy and designed graphics for successful Kickstarter campaign.
  • Coordinated with influencers and managed campaign strategy.
Game Designer and Frontend Dev | Wanderheart
  • Designed progression and gameplay systems for an AI games startup.
  • Wrote prompts and designed tooling for an AI gamemaster.
  • Helped build a demo (in Svelte) for our VC pitch.
Research Assistant | Deliberative Democracy Lab
  • Wrote Python scripts to extract information from large CSV and JSON files.
  • Performed statistical analysis on the results of Deliberative Polls.
Editor in Chief | The Bellevue College Watchdog
  • Managed a team of 12-15 reporters, section editors, photographers, and copyeditors.
  • Oversaw weekly publication, provided constructive feedback to team members, and developed new organizational systems.
  • Previously worked as a News Editor from June 2020 to October 2020 and Staff Reporter from October 2019 to June 2020.
